PocketPCR is a palm-size USB powered PCR thermocycler for amplifying DNA and molecular biology.

 

Simpler, smaller and more affordable. This ultra portable and compact thermocycler was designed with the goal to bring the cost down to affordable price for anyone who wants to do some biology with a DNA starter kit.

 

Specifications

 

  • PID temperature control 

  • Temperature range: Ambient to 99°C

  • Technology: Resistive Heating, assisted cooling

  • USB powered from any 2A power adapter or computer port

  • Sample Tubes: 5 x 0.2ml PCR tubes

  • Small size of 33mm x 105mm x 50mm

  • Weight: 50 grams

 

This PCR machine does not have a heated lid and mineral oil is required to prevent sample evaporation. Mineral oil comes with kit. 

Runs from a 2A USB power plug and USB-C cable (not included).

What's in the PCR Add-On Kit?

PCR Kit Add-On let's you get started right away with materials to look at your own DNA for what version of the DRD4 gene you have. This gene is associated with novelty seeking and risk taking.

    With help from our Makerspace, scrap and USD120, I am now in the process of building a 7x7 icewater-cooled programable PCR-machine.

    Easy to program, works well and it's all that's needed for small experiments, as five tubes is more than enough. One can also find a nice top cover for it on Thingiverse.
