Great Intro to Technique

We followed the instructions very carefully and got textbook results on the first go. We took the additional step of trying to grow the naive bug on strep agar (negative results). This kit is a great accompaniment to study of CRISPR. A concise summary of the processes needed to assemble this kit might give students a better feel for its elegance (how the template DNA is produced, for example--a lot of work is needed to put a student in a position to do this kit!). That is not a complaint. This is a really great and enlightening product.

The kit contains everything one needs to CRISPR some e. coli. If adequate pre-lab is done, it is quite understandable to most AP Bio students. Although it looks like a bacterial transformation that they have all done previously, they can understand what the Cas9 and the guide RNA is doing. I do have one recommendation - virtually all the kits I buy are for 8 stations/groups - this one is for 7. Drop some of the easily obtained or nice but unnessary things like gloves, 50 ml measuring device, and the microfuge tube rack, and give me enough of the nucleic acids, media, and bacteria to serve 8 stations.

The kit includes everything you need, with an easy to follow protocol for learning CRISPr. The price speaks for itself. 10/10

Just finished growing my own DNA edited bacteria in my home office. I come from a microelectronics background so working with precision tools and small amounts of material were natural. Succeeding the first time working with engineering DNA was a true rush. This was a lot of science fun and I can't wait to try another kit from Odin.
